TIANJIN, China, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Roman Weidenfeller, Borussia Dortmund's former goalkeeper, received a memorial watch designed for Dortmund, a special gift from China's watch brand Seagull on Friday.

Weidenfeller, who joined in Dortmund in 2002 and retired from the German giants this summer, experienced assembly of a watch by himself at Seagull's workshop.

"It's the first time for me to visit Tianjin. I really like collecting watches and I am so happy to assemble a watch with my own hands," said the 39-year-old Weidenfeller.

Seagull, a mechanical watch company in north China's Tianjin Municipality, has 65 years of history. It has introduced a lot of sports memorial watches in the past years. In 2018, Seagull cooperated with Inter Milan to produce a memorial watch for its football fans.

"When e-commerce is popularized all over the world, Seagull's cross-border e-commerce business has also made great achievements, including OEM production, with an annual export of nearly 500,000 finished watches," said Shi Bin, the vice general manager of Tianjin Seagull Watch Group Co.,Ltd..

"We want to attract more young people to promote the integration of watch culture and football culture through this activity," said Liu Yuqi, the sales director of Dortmund in China.

Weidenfeller, who won the World Cup with Germany, was the long-stand number one goalkeeper for Dortmund before he was replaced by Roman Buerki in 2015. He has won the best goalkeeper award of the Bundesliga in 2014.
