YANGON, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Two more people died of seasonal influenza A (H1N1) pdm 09 in Yangon region, bringing the death toll to 31 in total across Myanmar so far, according to the figures released by the Public Health Department under the Health and Sports Ministry on Tuesday.

Yangon region topped the list with 25 deaths, followed by Ayeyawady region with three deaths, Sagaing region with two deaths and Mon state with one, respectively.

From Jan. 1 to July 8, 180 people have contracted with H1N1 influenza virus out of 502 suspected patients.

Of them, the infections were mostly detected in Yangon region, affecting 108 people in the region, followed by Rakhine state with 15 affected patients and Nay Pyi Taw with 11.

Total of 52 percent of the affected people are 15 to 65 years old and most of the deaths were young children and elderly who had suffered from chronic illnesses.

The seasonal influenza virus was detected in July 2017, claiming at least 38 lives and 408 people were infected across Myanmar.

The symptoms of H1N1 include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills as well as vomiting and diarrhea.

The symptoms come within one to five days which is called incubation period after exposure to the infected person as the virus is spread through airborne droplets from sneezing and coughing or by hands which are contaminated with secretions.

Prevention and control of H1N1 virus to reduce the risk of fatality from the virus is being carried out by the health authorities, urging people to follow recommended precautionary measure.
