KIGALI, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The impact of training in Rwanda's technical, vocational education and training schools (TVET) in the job market is higher than expected, showed a survey released here Tuesday.

The satisfaction of graduates from TVET schools and polytechnics were 72.4 percent and 76.6 percent while that of employers was 78.2 percent, which means that the satisfaction rate by employers was higher than the graduates, said National Tracer Survey on TVET and higher education graduates employment and employer satisfaction.

"These seem to show that the impact of training is higher than expected," said the survey conducted by Rwanda's Workforce Development Authority and the Higher Education Council, which is aimed to fast track the outcomes of education and linkage with employment.

It assessed the impact of training programs, looking at competencies and learning outcomes in TVET and polytechnics and higher education with respect to employment.

The employment rate of both TVET and polytechnics graduates from 2016 to 2018, however, declined, according to the survey. The employment rate of graduates from high education also showed a downward trend, it said.

It recommended strict accreditation and re-accreditation, student-centered learning, and competence-based teaching to be more emphasized.

It is necessary to make education system more relevant and linked to the labor market so as to stimulate the economic transformation that Rwanda aspires for, said Rwandan Minister of State in Charge of Primary and Secondary Education Isaac Munyakazi when briefing journalists after releasing the survey.
