BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- "The Wandering Earth," China's first sci-fi blockbuster, continued to lead the Chinese mainland box office for the third straight week ending Feb. 24, according to China Film News.

Raking in 566 million yuan (84.7 million U.S. dollars) last week, the film reached an astounding total box office of 4.35 billion yuan since premiering on Feb. 5, the second highest in China's all-time box office record, only behind the 2017 action blockbuster "Wolf Warriors II," which earned over 5.6 billion yuan in the domestic market.

"Alita: Battle Angel," directed by Robert Rodriquez with a screenplay by James Cameron, came in second. Hitting the big screen on Feb. 22, the sci-fi blockbuster gained a total box office of 435 million yuan last week in just three days.

Third place was taken by Ning Hao's sci-fi comedy "Crazy Alien." With a box office income of 169 million yuan last week, the film has grossed 2.15 billion yuan in total.

Han Han's comedy film "Pegasus" took fourth with a weekly income of 165 million yuan and a total box office 1.65 billion yuan.

Rounding out of the weekly top five was the animated film "Boonie Bears: Blast Into The Past." Raking in another 53.5 million yuan last week, the film has earned total box office sales of 696 million yuan.
