BERLIN, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen move onto the second place in the standings after beating Wolfsburg on the goals from Davy Klaasen and Johannes Eggstein at the curtain raiser of the 7th round in Bundesliga on Friday.

Wolfsburg caught a bright start on the road and almost broke the deadlock in the opening period when Jerome Roussillon's dangerous cross into the box was deflected to the right post in the 12th minute.

As the game progressed, the "Green-Whites" gained a foothold and shocked the visitors with the opener out of the blue as Wolfsburg failed to clear the ball from the area, allowing Davy Klaasen to tap home the opener with a low shot in the 35th minute.

After the restart, the hosts retracted with the lead behind and handed over control to the "Wolves", who lacked in precision to restore parity as Daniel Ginczek's effort missed the target before Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka defused Josip Brekalo's long-range hammer.

However, Wolfsburg's efforts were not rewarded instead Werder Bremen put the result beyond doubt in the closing period as veteran Claudio Pizzaro set up for Johannes Eggstein, who scored his first ever Bundesliga goal in the 86th minute.

With the victory, Bremen extended their unbeaten streak on home soil to 15 games to move on the 2nd place for the moment meanwhile Wolfsburg stay on the 7th position after reaping only three points from the last five games.

"We needed some time to establish our style of play but soon as we did, we took control and scored the opener. We should have added the second goal way earlier. We need to be more clinical on our counter attacks," Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt said.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: front runners Borussia Dortmund face Augsburg, Hannover encounter Stuttgart, Mainz see Hertha Berlin, newly promoted Dusseldorf clash with struggling Schalke and defending champions Bayern Munich host Borussia Monchengladbach.
