BERLIN, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen recorded a vital 3-1 win over Wolfsburg and newly promoted Stuttgart handed Monchengladbach their third consecutive defeat to complete the 22nd round of the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Florian Kainz'brace helped relegation bound Bremen grab a crucial win at home to establish a three-point gap between them and the drop zone.

The "Green-Whites" ensured a fairy tale start as Ludwig Augustinsson headed home a pinpoint corner from Zlatko Junuzovic to break the deadlock four minutes into the encounter.

Bremen controlled the proceedings on the pitch against the hapless "Wolves". Nevertheless, the hosts had to wait until the 40th minute before Florian Kainz doubled the lead to reward their efforts.

Wolfsburg pulled one back after the restart when Paul Verhaegh needed a follow-up shot following a penalty save to beat Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka from very close range in the 49th minute.

Bremen were shocked but regrouped to put the result beyond doubt as Kainz wrapped up his brace with a left-footed strike after making the most of Max Kruse's assist in the 72nd minute.

Despite the victory, Werder Bremen is 15th on the league table. Wolfsburg suffered their sixth loss of the season to remain 13th in the standings.

Elsewhere, newly promoted Stuttgart returned to winning ways after edging Borussia Monchengladbach thanks to Daniel Ginczek who scored the only goal of the match.

Monchengladbach pressed for the equalizer but they lacked creativity and slipped to their third consecutive defeat.

"In the second half we were missing the punch and the final ball. We have a very difficult situation and we all do not like it," Monchengladbach manager Dieter Hecking said.

With the victory, Stuttgart occupies the 14th place in the league table whereas Monchengladbach slumped to 10th.
