TEHRAN, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A "limited" cyberattack has caused disruptions to the services of four Iranian banks since Saturday, the state-run IRIB news agency reported on Sunday.

No "illegal access" to customer data or information leakage occurred as a result of the attack, IRIB cited Alireza Qeitasi, secretary of Iran's Banks Coordination Council, as saying.

He said the services of Bank Melli, Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat and the Export Development Bank of Iran were affected. Technical teams quickly identified the abnormal activity and adopted necessary preventive measures to safeguard customer information and banking infrastructure.

Qeitasi added that the country's banking infrastructure is now under the full control of technical experts, with recovery and security restoration work proceeding at speed.

Esmaeil Ariani, director of Iran's Informatics Services Corporation, said the disruption affecting card services at Bank Tejarat and Bank Saderat has been fully resolved, with transactions restored.

He added that efforts are underway to restore services at the remaining two banks.

Several Iranian banks, including Bank Sepah, have been targeted by cyberattacks over the past year, including during periods of heightened regional tensions. ■
