JAKARTA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's resort island of Bali plans to establish 24-hour integrated service units and tourist service posts across all major tourist destinations to ensure visitors' safety and comfort, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster said on Friday.
The initiative comes as tourists may face various risks during their holidays, ranging from security disturbances and traffic accidents to illness and natural disasters, Koster said.
The governor explained that the service posts will be connected with health centers, disaster mitigation units, police stations, civil service police units, search and rescue offices, and tourism authorities.
"Emergency services must be available at every tourist destination and be quickly accessible through a dedicated contact number," he said at a meeting on the control and protection of tourists and foreign nationals in Denpasar, Bali.
Koster added that the local government is also preparing a digital application to ensure the system operates in an integrated and efficient manner.
"We must build a system that guarantees the safety and comfort of tourists throughout their stay in Bali -- whether at hotels, beaches, mountains, rivers, or while traveling between destinations. Everything must be managed cohesively," he said.
According to I Wayan Sumarajaya, head of the Bali Tourism Office, international tourist arrivals in Bali reached 5.6 million from January to September. Australia, China, India, and Britain remained the top four sources of foreign visitors entering Indonesia through Bali. ■
