ISLAMABAD, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The director general of the Pakistani military's media wing said on Friday that the country's law enforcement agencies are committed to eliminating terrorism amid rising security threats.

Speaking at a press briefing in Peshawar, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that the frequency of terrorist incidents has increased in recent years, and security forces have given a "firm and effective" response.

He said that the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has been on the frontlines of Pakistan's counterterrorism campaign for the past two decades.

Pakistan's armed forces wiped out more than 900 terrorists this year in more than 10,000 intelligence-based operations in KP, whereas 516 soldiers and citizens also lost their lives in terrorism this year, he said.

In 2024, he said that 14,535 intelligence-based operations were conducted in KP in which 769 terrorists, 272 military and paramilitary personnel, 140 policemen, and 165 civilians were killed.

Talking about the judicial and legal lacunas in prosecuting the terrorists, he said that it has been decided to strengthen the judiciary with regard to counter-terrorism cases.

"We are doing and we will continue to do whatever is necessary for the protection of our civilians' lives and properties as well as the territorial integrity of Pakistan," he said.
