SHANGHAI, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Minami Katsu produced a stunning performance at the 2025 Buick LPGA Shanghai on Friday, carding an 11-under-par 61 to set a new tournament single-round record.
Katsu collected six birdies on the front nine. After a lone bogey on the par-4 10th, she stormed back with six more birdies on the back nine to reach 13-under 131 for two rounds, two shots clear of South Korea's Ina Yoon.
"It was a pretty flawless round. Couple of luckies, but really good round overall," Katsu said. "My career best was 10 under, so a new record today. Obviously, we still have two more days to play, so probably no celebration. I'll try to keep it simple."
First-round leader Arpichaya Yubol of Thailand carded a 71 and fell into a tie for fifth with compatriot and world No. 1 Atthaya Thitikul.
Among the Chinese players, 15-year-old amateur Zhou Shiyuan continued her impressive form with a 6-under 66 to sit tied for eighth, while Liu Ruixin posted a 70 to rank tied for 12th. Amateur Li Menghan, who made a hole-in-one on Thursday, is tied for 15th. Defending champion Yin Ruoning registered four birdies and sits tied for 22nd.
"Compared with yesterday, I felt much better today," Zhou said. "I was able to fully immerse myself in the game, enjoy it, and play freely. My mentality has improved compared with last year. I used to be very nervous and couldn't relax, but this year I feel more mature and able to show my real ability." ■
