BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- A symposium on the centenary of the Palace Museum was held in Beijing on Friday, gathering more than 100 officials, experts and scholars, as well as representatives in the cultural sector to discuss the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage.

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and delivered a speech at the symposium.

Attendees agreed that the Palace Museum stands as a unique symbol of Chinese history and is an important emblem of Chinese civilization.

Established amid the sweeping social transformations of modern China, the Palace Museum has journeyed through a century, and it represents an enduring achievement in both China's cultural history and the cultural history of humanity, they said.

Attendees called for greater efforts to safeguard and pass down cultural heritage, explore its value further, and to share it more effectively with the world.

They also emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation, and of promoting deeper exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. ■
