Lithuanian PM targeted by Facebook scammers

VILNIUS, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis became a target of social media scammers creating fake Facebook profiles with the name of the prime minister, local media reported Saturday.

Skvernelis warned his colleagues and followers about fake Facebook profiles carrying his name. At least seven fake Skvernelis' profiles were created on Facebook social media platform.

"It seems I've been targeted by so called African princes or similar scammers," Skvernelis posted Friday evening on his official Facebook page.

He warned invitations to join suspicious lending platforms have been sent to Facebook users from these profiles, falsely claiming the prime minister of Lithuania had also joined the platforms.

"These profiles are fake. Don't be fooled by this. Facebook administration has been informed on these fake profiles," posted Skvernelis.

It's not the first time members of the Lithuanian government have been targeted on social media.

Last September, the Facebook account of Lithuanian Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis was hacked and deleted. The country's defense ministry claimed it had been "an intentional and malicious act" and contacted the country's police.
