Hungary wants "fair Brexit" from Britain

BUDAPEST, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Hungary wants a fair Brexit, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto told here on Friday at a joint press conference held with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

"We wish to have neither a soft, nor a hard, but a fair Brexit," Szijjarto said, explaining that the fair Brexit means a Free Trade Agreement between Britain and the EU, the continuation of security cooperation within and outside of the EU, and the warranty of the rights of EU citizens in the EU.

In response, Johnson said "The UK may be leaving EU but certainly not leaving Europe."

The Hungarian chief of diplomacy also briefed Johnson on the 12-point proposal of Hungary to the United Nations Global Compact on Migration, which Hungary is completely opposed to.

Agreeing that the question of migration must be left within the frames of "National democratic authority," Johnson said "We share a great community of opinions on migration."

Britain and Hungary are close allies and friends, said Johnson, adding that as we leave the EU, we will increase our trade, work even more closely together on European security, and increase links between our two peoples.
